Puyallup Open Doors

Puyallup Open Doors Logo

Puyallup Open Doors (POD) is a reengagement program designed to support students in completing their education at a flexible pace with the guidance of certified teachers and a dedicated case management team.

This program serves students who are credit deficient, have previously disengaged from school, or face personal responsibilities - such as work or family obligations - that make traditional high school attendance challenging. Through individualized support, Open Doors helps students overcome barriers, reestablish their educational goals, and transition successfully into adulthood.

Program Highlights

  • Flexible Learning: Students progress through personalized learning plans at their own pace.

  • Credit Recovery: Ideal for students who are behind in credits or seeking an alternative path to graduation.

  • Comprehensive Support: On-site case management connects students with housing, food, mental health support, and other vital services.

  • Multiple Pathways: Students may work toward a high school diploma or prepare for the GED.

  • Flexible Attendance: Designed for students managing work, family, or other obligations - with adaptable attendance expectations.

Program Pathways

The Open Doors program offers two distinct educational pathways tailored to meet the individual needs and goals of each student:

Diploma Pathway

  • Completion of 24 high school credits

  • Fulfillment of a Graduation Pathway requirement (CTE sequence or state assessment)

  • Completion of a High School and Beyond Plan

  • Credit earned through project-based learning, mastery-based assessments, or Edmentum coursework

GED-Plus Pathway

  • Focused preparation for and completion of the GED exam

  • Individualized support for post-secondary planning, including pathways to college, career opportunities, and/or eventual diploma completion

Referrals

Students may be referred to the Open Doors program by their current school counselor.

Families and students interested in learning more are encouraged to contact Walker High School directly for additional information and guidance.
